The music for the day is by a band that Harris and I saw in concert having previously no knowledge of who they were. The band is Grandaddy. You should check them out, they have infectious melody that sinks deep into your brain and you end up humming the songs all day long. Well, i hum only because i can't remember lyrics, but the lyrics are very enjoyable, goofy, silly stuff that if you can remember the words, they will have you singing all day long. As for me, i will stick with the hum.
"THE MAN" wins again
Now for those of you who don't know me, when I speak of "the man" I am referring to none other than Corporate America. I kinda think that is what most people consider to be the man, but I wanted to make sure that you know, without a doubt, that is who I am referring. A wise friend told me that when buying your entertainment equipment (tv, vcr, surround sound, dvd, etc) purchase everything by the same brand. This way you can get a universal remote control and it will operate everything and it will all be compatible. So Jamie and I set off on a Journey of the last 4 years of our marriage to acquire all our electronic media devices to be solely made by no other company than SONY. So from here on out I will be referring to SONY as, yep you guest it, "THE MAN"!! SO the man has collected a nice piece of bread from us considering we chose them to be out exclusive media provider. This past week we finally have everything set up and working and decided that it was time to consolidate from 4 remote controls to 1. Off to best buy we go, all excited, ready to spend some money to complete the ultimate system. We purchase a $60 remote control made by, "THE MAN".
Now here comes the exciting part. Upon arriving back at the house we put the $8 batteries into the remote and push power. Boom, the tv fires up no problem. Then we press vcr, and boom! Right away it comes on without a hitch. So we are feeling great and press DVD, BOOM!! Once again this is working like a charm. The last thing to push was the amp, the newest of the four pieces, fully loaded sourround sound system. So we press amp and then power and .... wait for it.. wait for it... Ok, nothing happened. So we thought, this is strange, let's try again. Nothing, nothing, then somemore nothing. We finally break out the code book written by "THE MAN" for "THE MAN"S" products. That doesn't work. Jamie calls "THE MAN" and after a 30 minute phone call "THE MAN" says, we are sorry, their is nothing that can be done, I guess these products are not compatible. NOT COMPATIBLE!!! But isn't that the whole point of buying all things from one "THE MAN" instead of three or four. I am sure that "THE MAN's" $200 remote will work it, but I will have to take out a loan to purchase that one. SO for now, "THE MAN" is victorious against the consumer and the Dudley's will have 4 remote controls.

So i went to see the new Robert Rodriguez movie, "Once upon a time in Mexico" with Kyle and Craig today. I was pretty disappointed. The movie was way to complex considering the most profound statement in the whole movie was made by the character that was played by Johnny Depp. Not that he isn't profound, or that he can't pull off amazing characters, because he can. It is more to do with the quote itself. (if you haven't seen the movie, and don't want the best part ruined for you, then skip down to the next paragraph) He turns to this guy that was working for him and tells him to do something. The guy acts all bent out of shape about it and then Johnny looks at him and says, " Are you a MexiCAN or a MexiCAN"T" It was the highlight of the movie. I know that this was just a stupid movie line, but i think there is a lot to be said about that line. Too often we focus on the negative and the hurdles, when we should just make up our minds and proceed. A friend of mine is struggling right now because he has been made aware of the struggles in Africa with the AIDS crisis. He feels so helpless. I told him that he can stop talking about it and do something. So i sent him this email about calling the white house and he did. All to say, things in this world are screwed up, and we can talk about them, and we can get all bent out of shape about them, but the best thing to do is decide that we can do something about them, and proceed.
sorry if i sound preachy, i am new at this blog thing and that was my thought for the day, i am learning more and more that i am an action person, or to steal from the Depp, "a mexiCAN"!! If you haven't seen the movie, i would say wait to rent it.
another side conversation i will always try and post the music of the day, music is my heartbeat, my passion. I love learning about new bands and i love going to shows. I am heading to the Austin City Limits music festival this weekend in Austin. It is going to be amazing. If you want to read out it go to aclfest.com I will fill you all in on how awesome it was right here at makebenfair. So the MUSIC FOR THE DAY: The Muse I would definitely say check them out if you are into Radiohead. They are another brit band i think. I stumbled onto them off another bands website and really liked what i heard. Then i shared it with Dave and everytime i tell him about a band, it seems that he just goes and buys the cd. I wish i had that luxury. I found the Muse in his car and listened to it today. Dave is away on tour so i have his vehicle for the next month. The good news about that is i will be able to listen to all the music that i want to buy that he does. that is all for today, until tomorrow, cheers
